The election of the Liberal majority in Ontario has just ensured a continued shortage of housing in Calgary along with increasing prices.
The Twittersphere is choc-a-block full of disillusioned entrepreneurs, trades people and others who will be immigrating to Alberta, the land of opportunity.

Welcome to Calgary. I hope you can find suitable housing. Our inventory of resales is low, new build inventory is low, and the rental vacancy rate is nearly the lowest in the country. Competition for the few homes available is going to be fierce.

Everyone from southern Ontario would buy up all the resales in Calgary especially resale condos and townhouses. No one from Ontario would buy new. The difference in Calgary between new and resale is massive for no reason in the world. Resales in southern Ontario cost more than new because of the lot size difference. .Condos and townhouses are at most 10 percent between the price of new and resale in southern Ontario and of course cost much more. For some unknown reason in Calgary a new condo or apartment can cost twice as much as a resale… DUH! No one from Ontario could ever figure that one out or ever will.
